Community Service Programs

Arts and Culture - Art is essential to the quality of life! The Arts and Culture Community Service Program encourages members to promote and support arts activities in all communities. It is designed to inspire clubwomen and ignite within a desire to make their world a more beautiful place. Create programs and projects that include music, dance, drama, theatre, and other arts-related areas, both traditional and innovative. The artistic experience can be outward reaching or for inner satisfaction. In other words, create an artistic experience that involves all programs and projects.

Civic Engagement and Outreach - The Civic Engagement and Outreach Community Service Program is designed to actively connect members with effective projects and activities relating to civic and social responsibilities. This program focuses on citizenship, military personnel, emergency and disaster preparedness, and safety and crime prevention.

Education and Libraries - The Education and Libraries Community Service Program works to improve literacy and education awareness in communities at home and around the world. This includes the scholarship programs to give to local seniors who live in Oviedo and are continuing their educations.

Environment - The Environment Community Service Project encourages awareness of our natural resources and caring for the world around us. Through preservation, maintenance, and restoration of our natural resources, it strives to educate members about the importance of beautifying our communities, preserving, maintaining, and restoring natural resources; and stimulating citizen action to address these concerns. Our natural resources include, but are not limited to water, trees, plants, air, land,
and wildlife.

Health and Wellness - The Health and Wellness Community Service Program is designed to inform members of issues that affect the well-being of individuals, families, and communities by providing opportunities and resources to meet and address needs through volunteering. Through this program, clubs may develop and implement creative projects that promote a healthy lifestyle; increase awareness, prevention, research, and treatment of disease; target personal development; address the issues of hunger, inadequate housing, and homelessness; and /or prevent or correct financial difficulties.

Special Projects - Currently we are supporting Project Linus. Project Linus's mission is to provide new, handmade security blankets to children in need, specifically those who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Members of OWC create items that provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Special Projects - We are continuing to support Christmas Boxes of Love where age and gender specific items are collected by membership, sorted and boxed, then distributed in partnership with community organizations to those in need.

Special Projects - This year we are focusing on Domestic Violence, its prevention, and how to support victims of this situation. GFWC OWC will be participating in the National Day of Service focusing on this area in addition to other events throughout the year.

Special Projects - This year we are continuing to support GFWC Florida's special project, Flight to Honor. The President chose to identify, fundraise and send our GFWC Florida veterans and their "Guardians" on an Honor Flight to help them see the memorials in place in Washington DC in their honor. A stop at the Military Women's Memorial will be one of the highlights of the one day only trip scheduled for March 11, 2026.
